Students in Ms. Maria Hinojosa's biology class conducted a lab study of the food chain using regurgitated owl pellets. The lab exercise allowed students to investigate the diets of owls as birds of prey. Using their specialized lab tools, students dissected the pellets to expose skulls and other skeletal parts. They learned that undigested remains of animals provide bones, teeth, hair, or feathers as evidence of the prey animals.
