Benavides ISD will be hosting a public hearing on February 21, 2017, at 5:30 P.M. in the Elementary Workroom at Benavides Elementary to collect public comments related to Benavides ISD becoming a District of Innovation. This concept, created during the 84th Legislative Session, allows local school districts to exempt out of certain requirements in the Texas Education Code in order to establish more local control. On February 13, 2017, the Board of Trustees approved a resolution to initiate an investigation into the possibility of Benavides ISD becoming a District of Innovation.
The Board encourages employees, parents, students, and community members to attend the public hearing and to share their thoughts on the proposed exemptions as well as other exemptions they may want to have considered.
