Dr. Ignacio Salinas, Jr., a former state
representative for the great state of Texas, is the Benavides Independent School District
superintendent.
Dr. Salinas served as a state representative from 1999 to January
2003 for District 44, which included Atascosa, Duval, Jim Wells,
LaSalle, McMullen and Wilson counties.
In Austin, he also served as Texas State Teachers Association
president and vice president from 1993 to July 2002.
He started his education career in his hometown, San Diego,
graduated from the University of Dallas, and later received a
master's degree in psychology and counseling from Texas A&I
University. He earned his doctorate in educational leadership from
the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. From 1985 to 1993 he was
a school principal at two San Diego ISD schools and worked later as
a site facilitator for the district.
