Superintendent's Message

 

 

 

Dear Eagle Community, 

I take great personal pleasure in serving as your Superintendent of Schools. I’ve been working and living in Duval County for over a decade and I’m very aware and appreciative of Benavides ISD’s rich history.  I feel a tremendous pride in representing the students, staff and community in this executive leadership role. 

Public education saved my life!  I truly mean that. Growing up as a migrant farm worker my family and I picked fruits, vegetables and worked the fields in: Minnesota, Michigan, Kansas, Colorado and West Texas. Raised in the back of a pickup truck traveling to “Los Trabajos”, I learned to Dream Big! My parents and grandparents always made it a point to make sure my siblings and I made it back to school on time and always preached that education was the way to success!

I am a 6 year US Navy Veteran with over 28 years of experience in education, both in public and higher-ed. Right out of the Navy utilizing the, “Troops to Teachers”, veterans program I started working as an elementary 2nd grade teacher for Harlandale ISD. I have 6 years of experience as a classroom teacher. I have served as an Elementary, Middle and High School Principal for a total of 12 years and as a Superintendent of Schools for 7 years. 

In closing, I am continuously impressed by the passion and pride displayed by the students, staff and community of Benavides,Texas. I’ve made it my life’s goal and mission to save lives via Public Education by serving as an educator and I look forward to working with our school board to lay out a bright future for Benavides ISD!
