Administrative Procedure
Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Instruction

Purpose
To establish consistent, legally grounded expectations for the use of artificial intelligence (AI) as an instructional support tool in alignment with state standards and district practices.

Authority
All instruction in the district shall align with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) as required by Texas Education Code §28.002. Guidance from the Texas Education Agency supports the integration of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.

Scope
This procedure applies to all instructional staff, including general education, special education, and intervention settings.

Administrative Expectations

  1. Instructional Alignment
    • All lesson plans, assignments, and instructional materials—whether developed independently or with AI support—must align to TEKS and district curriculum frameworks.
  2. Role of AI in Instruction
    • AI may be used as a planning and support tool (e.g., brainstorming, drafting, differentiation).
    • Teachers are solely responsible for reviewing, modifying, and finalizing all AI-assisted materials to ensure accuracy, rigor, and appropriateness.
    • AI shall not replace direct, teacher-led instruction, professional judgment, or student engagement practices.
  3. Academic Integrity and Student Use
    • Student use of AI must be explicitly guided by the teacher and aligned with campus expectations for academic integrity.
    • Assignments must clearly communicate when AI use is permitted, limited, or prohibited.
    • Student work should reflect individual understanding and mastery of TEKS.
  4. Special Populations (including SPED)
    • AI may be used to support differentiation and accommodations in alignment with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), §504 plans, and language support needs.
    • All supports must remain compliant with applicable federal and state requirements.
  5. Review and Oversight
    • Campus administration will conduct routine lesson plan reviews and instructional walkthroughs to ensure compliance with TEKS, district curriculum, and this procedure.
    • Adjustments and feedback will be provided to staff as needed to maintain instructional quality and rigor.
  6. Professional Responsibility
    • Educators are expected to use AI ethically, maintain confidentiality, and ensure that no sensitive student information is entered into AI platforms.
    • Staff will follow all district technology policies and applicable laws regarding data privacy.
